After six years of rock, the boys of Braid decided to call it quits somewhere in 1999. What they left behind were a great number of dissapointed fans and three superb studio albums. It's just now when I start to realize how this Champaign, Illinois, band has become a great influence on this particular style of punk, marketed as emocore. The Movie Music collection comprises all of the songs that the band released on (split) 7-inch singles plus the recordings done for various compilations. The collection gives a well-rounded idea how a band can evolve. But even so, Braid always had that energetic, rough, complex, yet sophisticated edge to them. According to the band, they never wrote a song specifically for a compilation or single, so you don't have to worry about a lack of effort in writing these songs. And with this collection you don't even have to worry about hopelessly searching for all those hard-to-get recordings, because they're all right here, beautifully packaged in a box set. A band with so much enthusiasm, even after their breakup, just deserves my praise.
