This is the third full-lenght Bouncing Souls record on Epitaph. Their last
CD was released in 1999, so it was about time that they released some new
stuff. Although it's been 2 years since their last record nothing has
changed drastically. Their CD (Bouncing Souls) from '97 didn't really appeal
to me because (with the exception of a couple of songs) it all sounded a
little bit the same to me. Because their release in '97 wasn't really
shocking, I never took the time to listen to their previous record "Hopeless
romantic". So I am gonna compare this CD with their record from '97.
When I got this CD I thought that this was gonna be the usual
Epitaph release. In other words, a couple of nice punk songs but nothing
special.
All that changed when I heard the first 3 songs. Fuck me! They've improved
so much! Greg Antonitto (lead vocals) now sounds a lot like the vocalist of H2O (Toby
Morse). Because of this all the songs are more diverse. To my opinion the third song
'True Believers' is one of the best punk anthems written this year. The one
thing that holds the Bouncing Souls from becoming one of the better selling
punk bands in the world, like blink182 and their tourmates Greenday, is
because they chose that their videos would not be played on MTV. Much
respect for this band!
