Bluetip is a hardcore band with its base in Washington DC on Ian MacKaye's
label Dischord. And that's not the only link. Bluetip's music can also be placed in the line of Fugazi, the band in
which Ian MacKaye sings. Other comparisons that come up are Tool, At The Drive In . Unlike many other hardcore bands Bluetip does not only play according to the rule "Loud & Fast Rules!" but has a more melodic style with room for experimentation. This results in nice, finished and
almost poppy songs like 'Spooky' and 'Newport' but also to more complex songstructures with a rising tension in them (e.g.
'No.2', 'Orchestra' and 'Retisonic'), just like what Fugazi is well known for. Bluetip also has the same double vocals (which, like Fugazi, aren't always in tune) to complete the resemblance. Still Bluetip has enough of an own face to make it on their own, especially since the world isn't flooded by this type of hardcore bands.
The band started in 1995, has made three albums up to now and has worn out
the same amount of drummers. The songs presented on Post Mortem Anthem were made and taped between '95 and '99. Some of them have already appeared
on (split) 7-inches or on compilation CDs for Dischord. Others have
previously been unreleased. There isn't much difference in quality between the older and the newer songs. They are
all very good, and it never sounds like a compilation CD. They could have
tricked me by saying it was a regular album. Fans of the previous named bands should surely check them out.
