Blake Baxter, AKA 'the Prince of Techno' proves with this release that he cannot be crowned 'the King of Techno'. This third part in the 'dream Sequence'-trilogy, as a celebration to his ten years with Tresor Records is a double-CD and yet not even one CD could have been filled with strong material. Of course certain elements such as Chicago-like beats, Blakeâs horny whispers and some Detroit feel are present, but the whole never really reaches the boundaries of eternity. This release is just a little dot in the temporal linear flux that history represents. No one will long remember this CD as being special or outstanding. It even makes you wonder why he is called the Prince. Of course Blake has had his momentum, but it is clear by now that he is not an artist that can follow in his own, sometimes glorious, footsteps. This CD bades in a river of mediocrity and as such will soon drown after floating along briefly. But what is the CD like then? Well, briefly I can tell you that some tracks are worthwhile listening to. Tracks such as Fertile Nestation (CD1), FM Disko (CD1), If you were mine (CD2) for example are good. 'Fertile Nestation' is a jazz-house feel-good tune and 'FM Disko' is a wonderful Electro-track and 'If you were mine' is a deep trip-hop trip. There are a couple more tracks to be appreciated, but not a lot. These three tracks referred to already give you a clue about the CD and the musical explorations found on this release. There is hard techno, like 'Deeppa' and 'Telescopic' (both CD1)) in Chicago style (a bit like the early works of DJ Rush). There is also house and disco-house, electro and trip-hop. Many tracks have a touch of acid to them. But most tracks do not have the power, nor the magic, to suck you deep into a world of enjoyment. They are all rather boring after a while. To end, I must say that 'We Vibe' (CD2) will probably become a floor-filler, but just for a short while... I donât see this CD as a real celebration for ten years with Tresor; itâs more like an anniversary one would prefer to erase from memory.
