Making experimental electronic music is not the easiest means for going through life. Not only is there a really thin line between truly brilliant experimental music, and plain, boring, useless sound experiments that go absolutely nowhere; but even when you get it right, your record sales will never get close to those of the nine-to-five music producer who just found a nice sample and looped it into eternity. Luckily this doesn't stop people like Oliver 'Beige' Braun from making really crazy stuff. And luckily for us, he is one of those people who really gets it right. His first album 'I Don't Either,' on the Leaf label, didn't go unnoticed. This time Braun turned to Burnt Friedman's Nonplace Records label for 'Eine Königsreich Für Eine Handgranate' (roughly translated: 'My Kingdom For A Hand Grenade'). And I have to hand it to Braun: This is one funny and surprising album. The tracks have names like 'Women and Children First (als wäre das die lösung!)' or 'Gosh! 48 Channels (alle genau dieselben).' The album ends with a secret track that's nothing more than a three-second howling scream. Beige's sound is minimal and disorientating at the same time, and it's definitely twisted. 'Rücksichtlos' is about the best word to describe the way Braun approaches his music. Combined with a cheeky sense of humour, it makes this album one of the most interesting releases floating around in the leftfield area. Beige is a very talented producer who always has something up his sleeve. Definitely a name to remember.
