Split album by two English underground electronica artists. Both artists are recorded at Gloucester, England's Ochre festival, in November of last year.
Avrocar begin, but fail to make a positive impression. And that has only one reason: Avrocar's vocals. The vocalist thinks he makes New Order pop music, and sings likewise. Unfortunately, the music is nowhere near pop music, and finds itself much more at ease with tags like spacy electronics in the best Spacemen 3 tradition. Those two things simply don't match. If he'll shut up in the future, Avrocar may be able to suprise us all with an amazing, spaced-out ambient record.
And that last thing is something Yellow6 (Jon Attwood) has already accomplished, with his beautiful albums Overtone, E.P., and Lake: Desert. The gig at the Ochre festival was his live debut, and although his music still is a stunning display of mesmerising atmospheric soundscapes, the live performance doesn't add anything to Attwood's studio works. I can imagine that attending a Yellow6 gig is a beautiful experience, but this live recording is nothing more than a clean reproduction of the studio sounds. Too bad.
