Automator | The Serum
12", Break It

Break It, made in Belgium, kicks off with a 12" by one of Holland's leading names in electronic music: Gert-Jan Bijl, better known as one half of Rotterdam techno duo Sensurreal and under the guise of Gerd (check his releases on Evolution!). He mixes up complex rhythms with funk, jazz and soul, and he didn't change the recipe for this release. The title track is nice, but it gets a bit too repetitive after a while. The gem on this piece of vinyl is on the b-side: 'Estrangement'. A fabulous up-tempo bassline that'll get you dancing in your sofa, topped of with some spacey background sounds. Not one of his essential releases, but still worth the buy.
