Who said that this German hiss'n'crackle thing is suitable only for post-party lounging and the chill-out room? Give Auch's "Kiss tomorrow goodbye" album a listen then, and come again, will you? There's beats here, quite fast ones, too. Sure, the 909 thud is competing with subtly layered drones and ticks, but it's there allright, merrily thumping away while sinewave flurries receive a gentle deconstruction at the hands of reverb boxes and understated delays. Hell, you'll even on occasion find those nice organ stabs House-afficionados have come to love so much. If the above sounds like a description of an average Chain Reaction release and you're presently rushing out to add "Kiss tomorrow goodbye" to your collection of brown-clad 12 inches, please hold on one second. If you read carefully, you'll find the qualification "dubby" is missing. This is for a good reason. Even though Auch borrow some elements from the cardboard-covered school of Ganja smokers, their tracks end up in a completely different arena when they're done with them. For one, you'll find less monotony, but the biggest difference is that the background hiss is constructed more elaborately than one would expect. Rather than serve as the glue that binds the mix of kicks, hi-hats and plops together, it takes on a life of its own, traversing moods and atmospheres quite varied in scope as the rhythm thumps away merrily. The tracks on "Kiss tomorrow goodbye" actually manage to stimulate your brain as well as your ass. May I respectfully ask the DJ's of this world to add them to their set, then?
