Here at the KindaOffice and KindaWebsite (and luckily all around the world), Slint is one of those bands who's name and fame has reached enormous levels, as it is on of the most influential guitarbands from the last ten years. No other band came really close to their sound, although some tried very hard (Mogwai for instance). Still, their influence can be felt and heard in almost every post-rock and emocore band. Ativin thought it was time to add some more striking resemblance. And it has to be said: they can get away with it. Ofcourse the level of Slint is just too high, but Ativin succeeds in creating similar, almost instrumental guitarsongs coloured with minor chords and spiced up with changing timesignatures. Even that nervous tension Slint had in some songs is present in Ativin songs like 'Rub Out The Woods'. Luckily Ativin can write some very good songs on their own, and together with the fact that Slint released only one really classic album, more than ten years ago, the return of this particular sound is something that is very welcome indeed. Also, the second half of the album the emphasis shifts more and more into the territory of atmospheric slowcore and postrock, so they do more than just blindly copying Slint. Therefore, 'Interiors' is one hell of an album that can easily be enjoyed, wether it makes you think of Slint or not. A quality album.
