It's summertime, and the perfect soundtrack for this time of the year is Astrid's 'Play Dead'. Not an entirely accurate album title in this context, but it is as it is. Astrid, coming from the Isle of Lewis in the very north of Scotland, make indie guitar pop with sweet melodies, and the music has an incredible feelgood level. Although they come from the cold north of Scotland, the music sounds mostly Beatles- and US-orientated, like the Mamas & the Papas, or even some Motown influences in 'Crying Boy'. "No worries except your holiday love heading home again" is the thought that frequently cames to mind while listening to 'Play Dead'. Good music for the kids who like things like Dawson's Creek and such. It's all very sweet and nice, the songs are well composed and are performed and produced perfectly. But, after listening to the whole thing in a row, toothache slowly comes knocking on your door from all of that sweetness. Consume in small quantities, and brush your teeth frequently with something darker. It keeps the dentist away, and has as a side-effect that the leaving of your holiday love isn't that unexpected anymore.
