This is the first full length of Italian rockers Acajou since they were founded in 1994. In the meantime they released an EP, a double 7" split with Hogwash, That's All Folks and Vortice Cremisi and their song "Arkanoid" can be heard on the stoner compilation "Stone Deaf Forever" with bands like Unida, Atomic Bitchwax and Beaver. On this album, called "Latin Lover", they sound like a stonergrunge band to me. They aren't as heavy as most of the stonerrock bands, but on the other hand I must say grunge bands don't groove like Acajou does, so I guess stonergrunge is a good description. Something like Borgo Pass, but then a little less diverse. Just some notable things: the vocals are very good, the bass player has created a nicely distorted sound, the guitar riffs sound alright but might be a little more inventive (often the same "trick" is used). All in all I can tell you "Latin Lover" is a very nice debut album that I like to listen.
