The buzz surrounding the White Stripes lately has been growing by leaps and bounds. With a performance on the Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn and an upcoming appearance on Lettermen this Detroit brother and sister duo are becoming indie rock heroes. In Louisville, a crowd of about 400 found out what the buzz was all about. The bare-bones attack of Jack White on guitar and Meg White on drums was all that was necessary; any more band members and the walls of the club may have collapsed under their power. The Stripes ripped through fan favorites from their first two albums as well as a strong dose of their new album 'White Blood Cells'. The band's full-throttle blues-rock attack could be strong enough to make the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion think of a career change. Stripes standards such as 'You're Pretty Good Lookin' (For a Girl)', 'The Big Three Killed My Baby', and 'Hotel Yorba' stirred the crowd up. Surprises like the breathtaking B-side single of Dolly Parton's 'Jolene' and other blues covers accompanied by Jack White's electric delivery and charisma spiraled the crowd into a screaming hysteria. The White Stripes are receiving much attention and are bound to get even more. This band deserves every word of hype that they have received. Lately, people have been preaching the Stripes as rock's saviours. Witnessing one performance will make anyone a believer.
