On Thursday June 15 I was finally able to see Creed at the San Jose St. Events Center in San Jose, CA. This was a makeup show from November 12 of last year. It was worth the wait.
First up was Nickelback. These guys are solid. They weren't as good as when I saw them last month, but overall they put on a good show. They played 7 songs: 'Leader Of Men', 'Look What Your Money Bought', this cool unreleased track, and a Soul Coughing cover.
Next up was Sevendust. A lot of people seemed to wonder why they were out with Creed, but to me they fit well together. The crowd was into them and the sound was awesome. They put on an energetic performance and played a good set. They came on stage to NIN's 'Something I Can Never Have'. During 'Too Close To Hate' they broke into 'Sweet Home Alabama' and 'Walk'. Here is the setlist in order: 'Denial', 'Rumble Fish', 'Crumbled', 'Too Close To Hate', 'Fall' (dedicated to Lynn Strait, the deceased vocalist of Snot), 'Black', 'Waffle' and 'Bitch'.
Finally Creed took to the stage. I hadn't heard this much crowd participation since the last time I saw Metallica. They've really come into their own. Scott Stapp's vocals carried over very well live. I was shocked at the amount of pyrotechnics they used, I totally didn't expect that.
Creed went through a well mixed set of 13 songs that was distributed perfectly through both albums. Their set was: 'Ode', 'Torn', 'Are You Ready?', 'Beautiful', 'Say I', 'My Own Prison', 'What If', 'Illusion', 'Faceless Man', 'With Arms Wide Open', 'What's This Life For?'. Encore: 'One', 'Higher'. Overall this was a good show and it was well worth the wait from November.
