The one where we finally get our reporter back after being abducted by aliens. Let's see what he still remembers of his partners in crime that night.
From the impressive list of dj's and acts on friday the performance of soul lady Norma Jean Bell must have been the most warm and soulful moment of the whole festival. First time this week that Room 03 opened its doors and the place was packed when miss Bell took the stage, together with a guy on keys and a percussionist. At her feet stood her sax, all ready to get the party going. And miss Moodymann got the party going alright. Norma Jean Bells impressive voice together with the rather slow beats made the atmosphere sexy throughout the whole concert. "It's so hot, so take your clothes off!" The crowd didn't only sing along, some even started taking up her advice. But what's most impressing about miss Bell is her stage personality. She's one big lady, in every sense of the word. Too bad her percussionist wasn't always up to par, playing far too uncertain at times and making too much mistakes. Nevertheless all the highlights from her album on Peacefrog got excellent ten minute live versions: "Yes, I am (Gonna Getch You)", "Come Into My Room" and "Mystery". In between she introduced a new song from her forthcoming album on Planet E. There was only one way to end this concert: with her club hit "I'm the Baddest Bitch". The first rows of the crowd joined the band on stage for some hot dancing and we were in soul heaven.
After that it was time to descent for some serious dancing in the main hall. DJ Heather was warming things up for King Britt. Some firm beats and nice house sounds but nothing special enough to remember for a long time. At 3am it King Britt took over.
Time for three hours of very nice deephouse, with a touch of tribal, tech-house and everything else that's good in the world of beats. While his track selection was outstanding, his mixing skills were maybe even more impressive. Every mix was looked after like a baby, with King Britt working so concentrated it sometimes looked like he was dearming explosives by gently twiddling the knobs. The feelgood house tunes got the crowd going and time flew by like it was nothing. To end things in style he treated the crowd with some Chateau Flight mixed into Basement Jaxx. One nice set and another addition to my list of highlights. After that local hero Brandy entertained the remaining party freaks with some quality house tracks and a touch of crispy electropop. Nice one!
