Name
"Bombardier Recording Co. is the official name of the label. The name of the
label was lifted from the Guided by Voices song, Rhine Jive Click. "...up and coming bombardiers..." was the exact line."
History
"BRC was born in September of 1996. BRC was born due to the opening of the
World Wide Web. The web was reducing many of cost structures related to
distributing music and communicating directly to rock music fans. Also, the
traditional major labels were busy releasing a lot of techno-based music
and rock, after "Grunge," was becoming formulaic and antiseptic.
Additionally, recording technologies are enabling bands to produce
high-quality recordings for very cheap. Plus, bands recording their own
material tend to have more control on the final output, thus more creative
control without a label's accountant overseeing the recording process. All
these pieces combined to form BRC, a collective of rock music bands sharing
a philosophy that the the traditional way of making music is stacked
against most bands and favors big labels. We want to change the model and
develop our bands. Our slogan: "indie rock is not a sound, it's a business
model.""
Bands and Their Sound

What's Up?
"Working with Junkie to release their the debut, self-titled CD. Buidling
the BRC brand with targeted 'zine advertising and sending out a lot of
promotional CDs. We recently finished our big promotional event of the
year, The BRC RockFest held in Chicago in November. 10 bands over two days.
Check out some of the photos at: http://www.bombco.com/rockfest.html What
a great event!"
Goals
"To have a lot of fun and hopefully, recover our costs. That's it. To build
BRC as a brand for rock music which rock fans can identify with and in
which fans hold the label in high esteem. I cannot imagine being anyone
else or aspiring to be any other label because there are very few labels
based only on the web. Using the existing distribution models (record
distros and retail stores) are expensive and time-consuming; I have no
interest in competing with the larger companies. BRC will remain small,
nimble and idealistic."
Future Plans
"Next CDs: Junkie, Moneyshot, Pesotum, Sugarsmack AND I envision having 2
RockFests in copyright--one in Chicago and another event in another part of the
US. Perhaps Atlanta, San Francisco or St. Louis????"
