Tell us: what's the special thing about Krezip that makes people like you so much?
"That's a good question. I'm also astonished sometimes. But I really don't know, I guess you have to ask other people."
You must all be very busy with school. Do you have sufficient time to focus on the band?
"That's something we just take our time for. Everyone is busy with school and we take that into account."
Do you already have a contract with a record label?
"No not yet but we are negotiating right now and when everything turns out right we'll make our decision within a few weeks."
That's great! When can we expect an official release by Krezip?
"We don't know exactly. It will be during copyright. But it's coming!!"
You write your own lyrics which often deal about feelings of people. Do you write about yourself, about people in your neighbourhood or about fictive characters?
"That depends. Sometimes I think I'm writing fiction but when I think about it again and listen to it in another way the lyrics deal with myself. But most of the time I do write about myself and everything around me. The things that attract attention and are on my mind all the time. That's also the best to sing about."
Can you express your feelings in English as well as you can in Dutch? Does the foreign language make it harder to write?
"Sometimes I try to write something in Dutch but I never succeed very well. The English language sounds more natural and people don't hear everything very open."
So far the Dutch music scene welcomed Krezip with open arms. Do you think you could deal with a negative CD-review?
"We already had some. Then usually we say something like 'We really don't care' but it sure does influences us. I know there will be more negative reviews and maybe I can deal with it in future. But it is still hard to swallow and sometimes it hurts a little bit. But you can also learn a lot from it."
Do you think Krezip is a hype?
"No, I don't think so. I get many positive responses from people about our gigs and songs. And we can still learn so much. This is just the beginning. We haven't even got our own official single so how can we already be hyped. The press writes a lot about us and that only pleases us. Still, I know it's possible but we don't intend to be just an hype."
And what do you think about the Dutch bands at the moment? Foreign bands are more popular over here but are they really better?
"I think the Dutch bands have a lot of qualities. But there is simply a lot of competition from other countries and that is very exciting, don't you think? Still there are a lot of Dutch releases in the charts."
While you've been in the band, have you ever been close to breaking up?
"No!! We've had some problems with finding a drummer but that was solved."
Do you already have any die-hard fans out there?
"Yes. There are people who come to every gig. People you just see a lot. That's really nice!"
Any letters?
"Yes, I answer all the mail myself and that sometimes takes a lot time but it's really cool to read all the things they write. And after the shows I speak to them a lot."
Any stories of weird encounters with fans?
"Well the first time we arranged a show ourselves (because there had to be some live recordings for our demo) was also the first time that everybody really came especially for us. And people were waiting in front of the door with self made t-shirts. And one of them wore a t-shirt saying "I want Annelies!".
We were totally amazed that people were doing such things for us."
Name your three most favorite bands?
"US: Alanis Morissette, Buckshot Lefonque and Lauryn Hill.
European: Skunk Anansie, K's Choice and Soulwax"
What's your greatest talent?
"I think what we're doing with Krezip. I'm not good in anything else."
If I would give you $100 right now, which record(s) would you buy directly?
"Jeff Buckley, the new album from Anouk or a real good old jazz album"
