SINGLE OF THE MONTH
Amp Fiddler: Basementality
The absolutely brilliant Superficial is KDJ-style Blues-house and thus fittingly contains a lo-fi remix by the Moodymann himself. On the flip it is all downbeat rhythms and Dwele-style vocals. Usually only out-of-league people like Carl Craig and Recloose can successfully perform on this level of scope and invention. Which makes this gem a five-star release.

Charles Webster: Ready (Herbert mixes) (Peacefrog)
Slow and jazzy house mixes by Matthew 'remix-mania' Herbert. Good as ever on the only house label in the galaxy that stubbornly refuses to go cyberspace. Respect!
Josh One: Contemplation (King Britt Funke Remix) (Prolifica/1-Off)
Wild-pitch disco-breaks by mixmaster King Britt. Huge with almost everyone and rightly so.

Various Artists: Off Limits 3 (Recreation)
More eclectic house, breaks and electro sounds selected by Stefan 'Sonar Kollektiv' Dixon in the brilliant Off Limits series. This time with contributions from Riton, Black Strobe, John Tejada & Titonton Duvante and J. Rawls.

Various Artists: Bardorb.com ep (Sinbone Alley)
With a wobbly ambient-electro track in a Basic Channel-vein by Alex Patterson and Thomas Fehlmann, The Orb, in case you forgot. The Kompakt guys will be wetting their pants over this one.
Koop: Waltz For Koop (Patife Remixes) (Stimulus)
Cool though not entirely world-shaking d'n'b reshapes by Brazilian Patife for Sweden's finest.
John Beltran: Felecidad Nova/Heaven&Earth (Ubiquity)
Very melodic and nostalgic bossa from someone who's getting better with the years. And it's on top breaks and bossa provider Ubiquity.

Röyksopp: Remind Me (Wall of Sound)
Probably the best song they've written up till now. But most thanks goes out to the enchanting vocals of Kings Of Convenience's Erland Æye. The other remixes are, although not bad, rather unnecessary.

Yukihori Fukutomi: Ep (King Street)
Jubilant Japanese bossa joy with arrangements that are worthy of MAW.

JMX feat. Tikiman: Tikisong (Life Enhancing Audio)
With dub prophet Tikiman on vocals you can't possibly go wrong these days. Two very minimal tribal remixes by Osunlade make this 12" the label's most memorable release to date.

Quango: Make It Happen (Main Squeeze)
Already out for a few months now this IG Culture scorcher is an absolute favourite with the KindaMuzik Sound System. You can't possibly get any better if you're into the combination of honey-sweet gospel vocals and break-neck complicated beats. West-London rules the waves.

Nile: 3 In Tha Morning Remixes (Nile)
With some nice smokey breaks and techno-light re-rub by Swag, a big band remix by Koop and a dark and brooding original.

Stateless: Another Day/Hool (Freerange)
More quality breaks and deep house on Jamie Odell's splendid label. With an acidic Yukihori Fukutomi mix as bonus.www.freerangerecords.co.uk
Procreation: Rhythmatism (Compost)
A strange yet versatile release from one of Compost's lesser-known acts. Detroit Techno in a Dan Curtin vein seems to be the main focus here. On Compost this results in techno-jazz and bossa breaks but there is also time for a spacey tech-house track. Pretty good, as we've come to expect from the Bavarians.

dZihan&Kamien: Stiff Jazz (Couch)
Groovy as hell and by far the best track the boys from Vienna ever committed to vinyl. And the upcoming album is equally tasty.
www.couchrecords.com
El-P: Dead Disnee (Definitive Jux)
Six razorsharp and iconoclastic remixes from what was already a very noisy hiphop track. Def Jux remains da shit.

Rhythmix: Reluque Batuque (Far Out)
Another remix project on London's address for quality bossa with among others Zero dB, Osunlade, Maw and 4hero mixing up them Brazilians.
www.faroutrecordings.com
Gregory: Tropical Soundclash/Damelo (Faya Combo)
Afrohouse bomb in the style of the Africanism series that's already being caned by the likes of Jazzanova and Osunlade.
