They were all there, almost without exception, at Het Nederlandse Muziekfeest ('The Dutch Music Celebrations'). Anyone who was anyone - or, more to the point, anyone who wanted desperately to be someone - in the wide world of Dutch pop and rock music made sure they were there. Some came for the scene, dressed immaculately to the nines. Some came to drown free cranberry Bacardi Breezers at the after-party. And yes - some were there for the music.
On 27 February, the Dutch equivalent of the Grammies were handed out in the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam. The Edison awards - named after the inventor of the same name - were to be handed out in 16 categories, ranging from best r&b and hip hop to best cabaret act of 2001. The ceremony, complete with several big-name international stars (Kylie, Shakira, Anastacia, Jewel, and Simple Minds, among others), was the perfect opportunity to gauge the goings-on in the music world, often straying great lengths from the music we cover here at KindaMuzik.
Also, another set of awards was to be handed out. Named the 'Harps' - awarded respectively in gold and silver - these honours went to Dutch performing artists, the two gold prizes awarded to long-standing acts with a solid fan base and a certain reputation in the Dutch music scene, and the four silver harps going out to motivate and encourage new talent.
The photography pit was chock-full, and yet we've endeavoured - thanks to our photographer Marjolein den Hartog - to present 30 typical snapshots of the evening. Backstage scenes, waiting in line, exciting dance routines? All were an integral part of Het Nederlandse Muziekfeest, and we wouldn't have wanted to miss it for the world.
